Each school year, the students, faculty, and staff of Ohio State and other area colleges and universities bring programs at the Wexner Center to life. Over the center’s more than 30-year history as a multidisciplinary, international laboratory for the exploration and advancement of contemporary art, we have collaborated with departments from every corner of campus. A nexus for cultural research, production, and experience—and a platform for the robust exchange of ideas—we continue to serve as a resource for our campus and community.

Alongside our faculty partners, Wex curators, educators, and other staff members enhance and contribute to university courses through guided tours, guest lectures, project support, research, master classes, and more. Over the years, we’ve been delighted to see the Wex embedded in on-campus classes and seminars where students attend and respond to programs, performances, and screenings as part of their coursework. In addition, we frequently invite faculty members from Ohio State and other colleges and universities to lead gallery talks during the academic year. Some partnerships with faculty, students, and artists span the course of several semesters. Below are examples of recent long-term collaborations between campus partners and our exhibitions, film/video, performing arts, and Learning & Public Practice departments.
The Wex offers tours of our exhibitions and Peter Eisenman–designed building for university courses or groups of any discipline. Resources developed by Wex staff are available to course instructors. Gallery admission and docent-led tours are free for all university students with a valid college ID. Contact us at education@wexarts.org at least three weeks in advance to find out how we can design and schedule an experience together based on your course objectives.
The Learning & Public Practice department reviews proposals for university cosponsorships held at the Wex. These may include an artist or scholar talk, conference, or reading. Frequently, we support cosponsorships that intersect with the center’s programmatic areas and contemporary topics. Please note that we review cosponsorship proposals three to four months in advance.
Encounter extraordinary artists, filmmakers, architects, curators, critics, and cultural commentators, and engage with Ohio State faculty and visiting experts in illuminating gallery talks, lectures, panel discussions, readings, and book signings. Explore current and past programs here.

All university students are invited to apply to the Interpretive Practices Program, which includes several positions for students interested in gallery teaching, writing about art, and art-related research. Inquire about opportunities at education@wexarts.org.
College students enjoy free gallery admission (with valid ID) and discounts on tickets to most performances and films at the Wexner Center. Learn more about other ways to join at the Wex membership page.
In partnership with the Wex Film/Video Studio Residency Program and Department of Film/Video, we offer programs and experiences to participants interested in learning from professionals about all aspects of film and filmmaking. Youth are invited to participate in short workshops, work-in-progress screenings, artist talks, and more. They may also submit their films to Ohio Shorts, our annual showcase of short films made by Ohio filmmakers of all ages working in all genres—from documentary to animation.
Contemporary Art, Learning, and Public Practice is a semester-long applied museum education course offered through the Wexner Center in partnership with Ohio State’s Department of Arts Administration, Education and Policy (AAEP). Students are encouraged to participate in the course, and all have the option to pursue course credit. This hands-on experience brings the theoretical into the realm of the practical and offers participants the chance to develop and discover skills applicable to the arts, education, cultural, and nonprofit sectors.
The Contemporary Art, Learning, and Public Practice course is taught by Dionne Custer Edwards, Head of Learning & Public Practice. The course is offered once a year in the fall. Space is limited. For more information, contact the Department of Learning & Public Practice at education@wexarts.org.
