Blade Runner: The Final Cut

Expand your knowledge of classic films with the Wexner Center’s new matinee series, 101 Films You Need to See Before Graduation.

Our first offering this year is Ridley Scott’s influential sci-fi masterpiece Blade Runner. In a neon-drenched future, replicants are bioengineered humans programmed to complete almost any task, usually better than the real thing. Harrison Ford stars as a blade runner—a cop trained to hunt down replicants gone rogue and “retire” them. As the lines between human and machine begin to blur, he soon learns that the truth is more complicated than he could have imagined. Based on a short story by Philip K. Dick, Scott’s dark and atmospheric vision of a dystopian Los Angeles influenced scores of films that followed. With Rutger Hauer, Daryl Hannah, Edward James Olmos, and Sean Young. (117 mins., DCP)

Blade Runner is notable for having been available in multiple versions; we’ll be showing 2007’s Final Cut, the only version over which Scott had complete control.
