Gain a deeper understanding of Black farmers with this insightful, immersive performance by the Bessie Award–winning duo, Brother(hood) Dance!

Black on Earth is an innovative and thought-provoking project that seamlessly integrates dance, agriculture, and technology to explore the experiences of Black farmers. This powerful artistic endeavor illuminates Black farmers’ resilience, wisdom, and cultural heritage while addressing the urgent issues of food justice and sustainable farming practices. The project incorporates projections, soundscapes, and interactive elements that will transport you into the sights, sounds, and stories of Black farmers.

About the artist

Brother(hood) Dance! was formed in April 2014 by Orlando Zane Hunter Jr. and Ricarrdo Valentine to research, create, and perform dances of freedom. A 2020 honoree of the New York Dance and Performance Awards (the Bessies), the duo seeks to inform audiences of sociopolitical and environmental injustices from a global perspective as well as to amplify the contemporary experience of same gender–loving African Americans. Brother(hood) Dance! has performed at FiveMyles, Center for Performance Research, BAAD! (Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance), Denmark Arts Center, Universidad de las Américas Puebla/Performática (Mexico), Escuela Profesional de Danza de Mazatlán/Viso Festival (Mexico), and Jean-René Delsoin Institute (Haiti), among other venues.
